Happisburgh fissures

Happisburgh, on Norfolk’s North Sea coast, in danger.

Labyrinth Mini Movies captured these photos taken of the coastline this evening, you can see that these things are happening. You can also see how they could be dangerous.

Nowadays, Happisburgh is a coastal village but it used to be some distance from the sea. Until quite recently, it was separated from the coast by the parish of Whimpwell which has been eroded away.

Documentary evidence shows that close to 250m of land were lost between 1600-1850. Even more recently, the village had to deal with the tragic floods of 1953 which claimed 76 Norfolk residents lives.
