'Facebook Curtailed My Reach', Humans of Hindutva Page Admin Tells Kunal Kamra | The Wire Exclusive
The 'Humans of Hindutva' Facebook page came into existence in 2016; after the Modi-led BJP government decided to demonetise high-value currency notes and in-effect withdrew nearly 86 percent Indian currency in circulation at the time. The page was a parody of the famous 'Humans of New York' and the 'Humans of Bombay page', and posted political memes.
In this brief chat with comedian Kunal Kamra, the page admin, who wishes to remain anonymous (because of death threats that he has been receiving by Hindutva organisations), alleges that Facebook has discriminated against his work in the past. Although he shut down the page on his own, he says that Facebook curtailed his reach and sent him false notices which temporarily paused his operations – all because he posted memes about Hindutva fanatics.
In 2017, Humans of Hindutva admin wrote an article for The Wire where he described how Facebook increasingly became a platform for people who wish to divide people, and not for those who ridicule these divisive tactics.
