Building a Slot Car Racing Pit Box!
Our neighbor, Dave, (the coolest neighbor ever) asked us to make him a slot car racing pit box. After doing some R&D to figure out what the heck a pit box was, we dug in. Dave provided us with the necessary dimensions for each of the compartments, so for the most part, it's made to his specifications. Using his drawing, I hopped on the computer and made a fairly in-depth set of plans to work from.
We chose Baltic birch plywood for the structure, and proceeded to build the entire project using joinery and glue - no fasteners at all except for the hinges and latches.
It was an exercise in planning, patience, and perseverance. We laughed, we cried, we nearly wore out the table saw. But in the end, the box looks great, and functions as intended. Mission accomplished.
Please note: we are not professionals. We're not claiming that this is the correct or only way to do any of this stuff. It's just how we did it. Don't attempt using power tools if you're not comfortable with it. They're dangerous! Be safe out there!
God Bless.
