uOttawa students say lockdown communication fell short

Students and parents are raising concerns about how the University of Ottawa communicated during Friday's lockdown, after many did not receive the initial emergency alert because it was sent only through the SecurUO safety app rather than a centralized email. CTV's Josh Marano reports that Ottawa Police inspector Brian Samuel confirmed the suspect was found in possession of a replica firearm, with his behaviour beginning at the Rideau Centre before moving onto campus. The uOttawa Students Union is calling for a centralized email notification system going forward, while the university says email cannot be relied on in time-sensitive emergencies and is encouraging all students to download the SecurUO app.
