Following the demise of TRS legislator Nomula Narasimhaiah, the BJP has shifted its focus on winning the by-polls from Nagarjuna Sagar constituency which the late leader had represented in the assembly. The BJP is on a high after wresting the Dubbak seat from the TRS in the bypoll recently and wants to replicate this winning momentum in Nagarjuna Sagar seat as well.
Sources said the BJP is hoping to get senior Congress leader and former minister K Jana Reddy’s son Raghuveer Reddy join the party and make him contest the by-election on a BJP ticket. “Our leaders are in touch with Jana family. Talks are on to rope in Raghuveer into the party,” a senior BJP leader told TOI.
“If the talks proceed positively, it will be another shot in the arm for the BJP on the lines of father-son duo D Srinivas and D Arvind,” he said. Srinivas, who was PCC chief, joined TRS but has been staying away from party activities for the last 2-3 years. His son Arvind contested on BJP ticket against K Kavitha of TRS in 2019 and won Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat.

Jana Reddy lost the election last time but continues to have a strong say in the constituency. He won the battle against Narasimhaiah in 2014 election. After losing the election in 2018, Jana Reddy was not actively seen in party circles. In the 2018 election, BJP’s K Nivedita Reddy got just 1.5% vote share and finished a distant third.
