In this video, I discuss how Warren Buffett picks stocks for the long-term. One of his primary criteria is whether the company possesses a sustainable competitive advantage (investment moat) like:

1. Strong brand (Apple, McDonalds, Starbucks, Disney)
2. Strong network effects: eBay, FaceBook, Amazon
3. Huge scale: Walmart, Amazon
4. Access to capital markets: Starbucks vs. local coffee shop
5. Location: Starbucks, McDonalds, Chipotle
6. Intellectual property, patents: high tech, biotech
7. Innovative and charismatic CEO's: Steve Jobs, Elon Musk
8. Eligible for government bailouts: airlines, banks, defense companies

I also discuss revenue and net income growth, return on assets, as well as what levels of long-term debt are acceptable.

Finally, I consider forward dividend yields, P/E's and earnings yield as a way of choosing between investment opportunities that include savings accounts, real estate, and stocks.
