Oxford Mathematician explains SIR Incubation Disease Model for COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
The SIR model is one of the simplest ways to understand the spread of a disease such as COVID-19 (Coronavirus) through a population. This version of the model includes an 'incubation time' which represents the time delay between catching the disease and becoming infectious.
You can explore the model for yourself using an interactive tool from Mathigon here: https://mathigon.org/pandemic.

Watch the second video on the 'Travelling Wave' SIR model here:

In this video (the third in the series), University of Oxford Mathematician Dr Tom Crawford explains how including an incubation time modifies the original SIR model for disease spread. The model is discussed in the context of the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak and shows the results from the original SIR model are unchanged at leading order.
Produced by Dr Tom Crawford at the University of Oxford.
