The Arrest of Saint Alexander Briant, English Martyr

On December 1st 1581, three Catholic priests met one another at the Cole Harbour Gate in the Tower of London, where they embraced one another for their final journey. They were the famous hunted Jesuit priest Saint Edmund Campion, as well as hunted priest Saint Ralph Sherwin and young priest Saint Alexander Briant. Having been arrested during their separate missions throughout England to minister the outlawed Mass and Sacraments during Elizabethan penal Times, these three men were to die together.

Fr Edmund was strapped alone to a hurdle behind a horse; Fr Ralph and Fr Alexander were strapped together on a second hurdle behind a second horse.

Dragged through the London streets to Tyburn, these three men gave their lives in defence of the outlawed Catholic Faith on that cold December morning.

In this film clip from the DVD 'Saint Alexander Briant' by Mary's Dowry Productions, we look especially at his arrest in the events leading up to his heroic sacrifice as an English Martyr and a powerful intercessor for us today.
