Queen - "A Night At the Opera" Record (1975) On Vinyl

The most loved and celebrated Queen album, one of the greatest rock masterpieces of the seventies, was released on November 21, 1975. Recorded over a period of four months, in various recording studios, it was the result of a painstaking study by the band, who put the maximum of his imagination and desire to experiment into this work.

0:00 Introduction

SIDE 1
- (1:02) Death On Two Legs: the opening track Death on Two Legs can be described as a hate letter from Freddie Mercury to Queen's first manager, Norman Sheffield, who for a few years was found guilty of deceiving the band and abusing his role from 1972 to 1975.

- (4:43) Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon: is another composition by Mercury about a dandy who goes around the world all week and finds relief from his troubles on Sunday afternoon, through a very simple and swing music system.

- (5:51) I'm in Love with My Car: I'm in Love with My Car is one of the most famous Queen songs among those composed by Roger Taylor. It was Taylor who played the guitars in the original demo, but the various parts were later re-recorded by May on his Red Special for the final version.

- (8:55) You're My Best Friend: You're My Best Friend was Queen's first single written by John Deacon. The song was written for his wife, Veronica Tetzlaff.

- (11:48) '39: '39 was May's attempt to compose a "sci-fi skiffle" style piece. May sings the song on the album, with backing vocals from Mercury and Taylor.

- (15:17) Sweet Lady: is a song written by Brian May. It is basically a fast rock piece with a lot of distortion composed in the unusual 3/4 time.

- (19:23) Seaside Rendezvouz: is best known for its "jazz band" style middle section performed vocally by Mercury and Roger Taylor.

21:38 Change side of the disc.

SIDE 2
- (21:56) The Prophet's Song: was composed by Brian May as a mini-suite. In the middle of the piece there is a complex vocal part sung by Freddie Mercury, in which his voice is overdubbed four times in a non-synchronous way.

- (30:14) Love of My Life: is a sweet piano ballad composed by Freddie Mercury for his youthful love Mary Austin. May plays the harp, a Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar and his Red Special.

- (33:53) Good Company: was composed and sung by Brian May, who also plays a ukulele on the track that originally belonged to George Formby.

- (37:16) Bohemian Rhapsody: is a composition by Freddie Mercury, with the guitar solo written by Brian May. All the piano, bass and drums parts, as well as the vocal arrangement, were created by Mercury.

- (43:14) God Save the Queen: In October 1974 May recorded a reinterpretation of God Save the Queen, the British national anthem, before the start of the Sheer Heart Attack Tour. Once completed, the track was played as the finale in virtually every Queen concert.
