The Small Block Shootout tests 4 pony cars, representing the street versions of the legendary Trans Am cars that battled it out on road courses across North America during the 1969 and 1970 seasons.

The small block cars will compete in 1/4 mile and braking tests, but this time we will also be taking them to the road course to see how these factory original cars live up to their racing reputation.

1. 1970 Javelin SST
AMC Javelin SST V-8 360-4 4-speed (man. 4) in 1970, the model with 2-door fastback hardtop coupe body and V-8 5896 cm3 / 359.8 cui, 216 kW / 294 PS / 290 hp (SAE gross) offered since September 1969 for North America . According to the ProfessCars™ estimation this AMC would accelerate 0-60 mph in 6.1 sec, 0-100 km/h in 6.5 sec and quarter mile time is 14.8 sec. This car is 4852 mm / 191.04 in long, 1826 mm / 71.9 in wide and 1310 mm / 51.56 in high

2. 1969 Camaro Z28
Chevrolet Camaro Z28 with 302-inch V8 engine with bright accents, chambered dual exhaust system, Z28 emblems on grille, front fender and rear panel, special front and rear suspension, rear bumper guards, heavy-duty radiator and temperature-controlled fan, quick ratio steering, 15 x 7 wheels with trim rings, E70 x 15 special white-lettered blackwall tires, special paint stripes on hood and rear deck. Available only when four-speed transmission and power front or four-wheel disc brakes are ordered. Positraction rear axle. JL-8 (four-wheel discs) brake package.

3. 1970 Mustang Boss 302
The dual exhaust system was redesigned, along with the competition suspension and a standard Hurst shifter. The intake valves were slightly smaller, and cast aluminum valve covers replaced the chrome. With a suggested price of $3,720, a total of 7,013 were sold. In addition to a lower ride height, standard equipment included front disc brakes, larger sway bars, heavier duty spindles, reinforced shock towers, a four speed manual transmission, and the solid-lifter Boss 302 V8 engine, with its free-breathing Cleveland style heads, which had valves larger than most engines more than a third larger in displacement. This "G Code" engine was rated at 290 hp (216 kW). The 1970 model could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 6.9 seconds, and the quarter mile (~400 m) took 14.6 seconds, reaching a speed of 98 mph (158 km/h).

4. 1970 Dodge Challenger
TASCCA rules required Dodge to sell production editions of the track car, and Dodge responded with the Challenger T/A. The race cars ran a destroked 305-cid version of Mopar's fine 340-cid V-8. It had a four-barrel carb and some 440 bhp. Street T/As stayed with the 340, but upped the ante with a trio of two-barrel Holleys atop an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold. Despite the "Six Pak" carburetion and a host of internal reinforcements, the T/A's mill carried the same 290 bhp rating as regular four-barrel 340s, though true output was near 350 bhp. The intensified 340 and meaty rear tires helped production versions claw through the quarter in the mid 14s, a showing that would do any small-block proud.
