The Hidden Design of LoL Classes | Ultimate Guide for Classes and Positions #2

League of Legends is not an easy game to get into. But I got you covered. Learn everything about Classes & Positions here!

Can't wait to enjoy Regional Leagues but you get lost when looking at team compositions? Ever felt like you understand the basics, but don't understand why things are played the way they are? Are you a complete beginner in League of Legends and don't know where to begin from? I've created the Ultimate Guide for Classes & Positions so anyone can begin to understand the mechanics of League of Legends! In-depth, but easy. In this second video, we will take a deeper look at classes and know them from the inside out.

---- Differences from Official Classification ----
◊ Unique Tag
Originally Riot called this tag as “Unique Playstyles”, and established it as a different class from anything else, as comparisons wouldn’t work that well. However, this makes no sense, as the differences between these champions are even more abysmal to put them together: seeing Gangplank, Singed and Azir as members of the same class don’t help you to understand them at all. Additionally, is quite disconcerting to see that Heimerdinger is not a Mage, or Cho’Gath not being a Tank, because they are both “Unique Playstyles”. The Unique classification are better interpreted as a tag that accompanies an already classified champion, giving you the information that even though they are similar to certain class and fill the same purpose, the way they behave and are played is, in fact, unique.

◊ Slayers/Fighters
Originally, Riot classified what we called Slayers as an Assassin subclass, having then Fighters (Juggernauts and Divers) and Assassins (Pure Assassins and Slayers). The fact that Slayers deal sustained damage is much more important than being mobile or dealing high damage (things that already exist in the Fighters class), and because of the image that resonate in players’ minds: would you relate champions such as Yasuo, Riven and Jax closer to the concept of "Fighter" or to "Assassin"? Even though it can be argued that they are something in the middle of both, they are thematically closer to the first one. For this very reason Battle Mages are part of the Mage class, even though Battle Mages could systematically and analytically fit better as a Marksman subclass.
In the end, classifications can be pretty subjective, and classifying Slayers both in Fighters or Assassins classes can be logical answer. The same thing could be said about Juggernauts: are they really Fighters, or are they a Tank subclass, having engage Tanks, disengage Tanks and damage Tanks? I just tried to go with the one that involved the minimum amount of contradictions possible.
