American Gun The True Story of the AR-15
*The authors of the book, American Gun: The True Story of the AR-15, Cameron McWhirter and Zusha Elinson chronicle the evolution of the popular AR-15.
Not a single mass shooting and its resulting news coverage in America happens without a mention of the AR-15. But less is known about how the patriotic Eugene Stoner, living in Los Angeles, invented this gun for the American military. The authors of the book, American Gun: The True Story of the AR-15, Cameron McWhirter and Zusha Elinson chronicle, in this lively discussion, how Stoner’s invention transformed into the military’s M16 and, later, into the popular civilian AR-15 and, post-9/11, became a consumer icon at gun shows, selling in the millions.
Subbu Vincent, director of journalism and media ethics at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics hosted a conversation with McWhirter and Elinson about the AR-15 story and American culture.
