The Wreck of the Steamboat Bertrand (1865)

In 1865, the steamboat Bertrand was carrying cargo up the Missouri River toward the Montana gold fields when it struck a submerged snag and sank near present-day Nebraska. Everyone survived, but the ship and its cargo disappeared beneath the river mud. More than a century later, the wreck was discovered with thousands of frontier-era artifacts still preserved.

My apologies for the wrong image used in the video thumbnail. I’m aware it showed the wrong type of ship. The Bertrand was a shallow Missouri River steamboat, not an ocean-going vessel.
