Train Cab Ride NL / Autumn Forest / Zwolle - Amersfoort - Amsterdam / ICM Intercity / November 2021

Hi everyone! Two weeks have flown by and now it’s time for a brand new Train Cab Ride through The Netherlands. A couple of days ago I finally got a ride between Zwolle and Amersfoort again. Doesn’t happen very often in my work schedule, so the camera was out of the bag within seconds.

We get to drive through some beautiful autumn forests between Zwolle – Amersfoort and Amsterdam! From Zwolle to Amersfoort the sun is shining straight into the camera. But as of Amersfoort we will make a right turn towards Amsterdam. The view will get better than as well. I hope you will enjoy it.

We start the journey in Zwolle. Before this ride I already drove the intercity Amsterdam – Dordrecht and back to Leiden. Then the sprinter to Amsterdam and Zwolle and now we’re on the diverted intercity Groningen – Amersfoort – Amsterdam. Make sure to check out the awesome looking bus viaduct at departure.

On our way to Amersfoort you will see lots of forest and small stations in between. The intercity skips all the stations and every 30 minutes there’s a sprinter running (even more sprinter during rush hour) that stops on all the station in between.

30:15 Amersfoort Vathorst
Just before Vathorst a sprinter is approaching with bright head lights on. No problem is there’s no train coming, but on a cloudy day I still need sunglasses because of colleagues who forget to dim the bright lights. Bad for the eyes. And eyes are very important for the driver. That’s why I give a short call to the driver from that train (signaling with my head lights did not have effect).

Welcome in Amersfoort! At this station trains run towards Barneveld, Apeldoorn, Zwolle, Utrecht and Amsterdam. Lots of ways you can choose from here. The tracks at the station recently got an upgrade. That’s why you see for the first time on my channel the signals just before the platform. This way trains can wait just meters from each other when delays occur. I still wonder why ProRail did not do the same on track number 7.

Beautiful Baarn. In the middle of the forest and also the station where the queen would enter here train in the past. If you are in The Netherlands one day, it’s fun to visit this place and make a nice walk through the forest from station to station.

53:19 Bussum Zuid
Just after Bussum Zuid I sound the horns of the train because someone was passing the railraod crossover ahead very late. As a driver you know what’s the normal distance to let people pass. It’s really shocking for drivers to see someone passing by just seconds before the train arrives at that point. We cannot stop in that short distance. If you fall….. you know what will happen next.

1:01:39 Diemen
Just after Diemen at ATB system looses the code in the track. Therefor it says you are allowed to drive at maximum 40km/h. The driver must hit the brakes within 2.5 seconds. If not the train will stop immediately. The driver must drive on sight and limit the speed to 40km/h until a signal has passed that allows a higher speed. After passing this ATB failure I report it to the train dispatcher.

Another look on the emptied Dijksgracht. Soon ProRail will start building dive-unders and fly-overs here. This for quicker train traffic in Amsterdam in the near future.
