Visiting the Shan Palace Plus a Shan Princess (Hsipaw, Myanmar)

The Sawbwas of Hsipaw lived in the Hao Sao Pha / Shan Palace / ဟော်နန်း at the northern end of Hsipaw. The last Sawbwa or Prince (Sao Kya Seng) disappeared during the military coup in 1962 and the palace is cared for by his nephew, 'Mr. Donald' (Sao Oo Kya), and his nephew's wife - who is now the host for late afternoon visitors. She tells visitors the story of the Shan State over the last 50 years, explaining specifically the history of the last sawbwa and their family (NOTE: The audio might be hard to hear w/o headphones given the background noise and I was at a distance).

Its also recommended to check out the memoirs of the last Sabwa's Austrian wife, Inge Sargent, called "Twilight over Burma: My Life as a Shan Princess." It's a moving personal account of her life in Burma up till her husband's disappearance.
