Year 9 Welcome

Welcome to the newest members of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School ‘brotherhood’, our 2017 Year 9 cohort. As our Year 9’s entered the assembly hall for the first time on Thursday 2 February they were challenged with the school haka, performed by a number of our senior Maori students and Year 10 students. This was followed by a mihi whakatau (welcoming speech) from our Head of Te Reo Maori, Mr Strickland. In his speech, Mr Strickland highlighted the importance of traditions at Palmerston North Boys’ High School and that today represents a new beginning for our Year 9 students and their chance to contribute to the traditions of the school. Mr Strickland challenged the Year 9 group to rise to meet the challenges in front of them and to always strive to do the very best they can in all aspects of their lives.

“Whaia e koe te iti kahurangi. Ki te tuohu koe me he maunga teitei.” (Pursue excellence – should you stumble, let it be to a lofty mountain) Strive to achieve your goals, do not let obstacles get in your way.
