Greg Alba & John Humphrey return to the ton for their reaction & review of Bridgerton Season 2, Episodes 1 & 2 — “Capital R Rake” and “Off to the Races.” Netflix’s beloved Regency-era romance continues as the spotlight shifts to Anthony Bridgerton, whose search for the perfect wife begins to shake up London’s high society.
In Episode 1, “Capital R Rake,” Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey, Fellow Travelers, Wicked) declares his intention to find a viscountess during the new social season. Enter the Sharma family — newly arrived from India — including the intelligent and fiercely protective Kate Sharma, played by Simone Ashley (Sex Education, The Little Mermaid), and her younger sister Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran, Dune: Prophecy). While Anthony initially pursues Edwina as his ideal match, Kate quickly becomes skeptical of his intentions, sparking the fiery chemistry that drives the season.
Episode 2, “Off to the Races,” raises the stakes as the Bridgertons and Sharmas attend the races in one of the season’s most memorable social gatherings. Lady Whistledown’s gossip continues to shape the ton, while Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan, Derry Girls, Big Mood) secretly balances her double life as the infamous columnist. Meanwhile, Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel, Lady Macbeth) keeps a watchful eye on Edwina as her chosen “diamond,” and Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie, Line of Duty) begins investigating Lady Whistledown’s true identity. With sharp banter, romantic tension, and lavish Regency spectacle, these opening episodes set the stage for one of Bridgerton’s most beloved love stories.
