For me being able to start a fire in the wilderness using your knowledge and the few tools you have in your pockets and or bag is a vital skill to have and every one should build their knowledge and hone their skills any chance they get. You should always carry a survival Knife and a lighter when you go into the wild. But one tiny, lightweight but valuable item that most people might never consider bringing or even using as a fire starting tool in the simple Pencil Sharpener. Not only good for sharpening your pencil (as the name implies). It also produces very fine wood shavings when small branches and twigs are sharpened with it. These shavings are so fine and dry they catch a flame very easily. Also some of the ones with metal cases that look like the one used in this video are actually made from magnesium. This can be scraped to produce fine magnesium dust that will take a spart from any ferro rod producing a hot flame.
