Saab 9-5 Tuning: Adding ISO 15765-4 Canbus to the OBD2 port - Trionic Seven

This video shows how to tap into the Canbus network of a Saab 9-5 over the high-speed Power bus (P-bus). This allows for efficient communication with the cars ECU which in turn enables realtime logging and monitoring as well as in-car ECU flashing. In contrast to the slower Instrument Bus (I-bus), the P-bus gives a stable connection suitable for flashing.

The method shown in this video requires the car to have ESP, since we are using the P-bus cables going to the steering angle sensor. In addition, the installation is completely invisible with no extra outlets or loose cables. Instead, we add pins to the diagnostic OBD2 port.

After performing this modification, we can start flashing the ECU using a Lawicel CANUSB adapter, or johnc's Combi Adapter from Trionictuning.

We also make the car compliant to ISO 15765-4 by adding the two missing pins. If you have a Saab 9-5 from MY08 or newer, these pins are already in there, however older cars like this require the modification.

This modification takes a bit of skill to perform and can severely damage your car if performed incorrectly.
