The Exorcist | Behind The Scenes Clips - #8
Similar to #7 but with some extended footage.
Features never-before-seen superimposition tests, footage revealing Jason Miller's infamous reaction to unexpectedly being shot in the face with the pea soup vomit and the entire outtake of Linda Blair being thrashed around the bed which ended in an injury to her back (you can see her crying at the end).
Also included are different takes of Linda Blair filming the projectile vomiting scene, sans the vomit, which was added in post using optical effects. The scene was originally shot with actress Eileen Dietz using an apparatus created by make-up artist Dick Smith that would spray the pea soup out of her mouth as Blair found it too uncomfortable. Upon reviewing the dailies, director William Friedkin decided he was not satisfied with the effect and re-shot the scene with Blair miming the actions. A thicker stream of vomit was then superimposed over the shot.
Regan's bedroom is also noticeably different to how it appears in the film in some shots. Friedkin was unimpressed by original production designer John Robert Lloyd's work, and quickly replaced him with Bill Malley who opted for a more monochromatic look.
