8 year olds first ever archery deer Pennsylvania doe hunt with Ravin r29x 2023

After a bunch of hunts that we didn't see any deer it was a treat to actually see something at this spot. We were hoping for a buck to show up and when one didn't, I gave my 8 year old son the green light to try and shoot his first archery deer with a crossbow. I initially thought the shot was perfect and looked for her 3 times that night. Jumping her each time. Unfortunately my son wasn't along for the recovery since he had school the next day. I found her around 9:15 the next morning still alive but barely. She had got up to run and didn't make it very far. It seemed like that short burst of energy exhausted what life she had left. The shot was plenty low and back a little bit but the blood trail was great, and didn't indicate a poor hit. Stay tuned for next week's video. He makes up for it with a perfect shot on a fine buck-his first buck!
