This is not a specific projector buying guide for home theater. This video will also not tell you which the best projector for gaming is. But it’s an ultimate projector buying guide, where we tried to explain all the geeky terms on the projectors and tried to help you decide one for your office works, home theater and for gaming.
In most of the projector buying guide lumens is often ignored. Lumens actually determine the intensity of brightness of light the lamp of projector emits. So having high lumen very is often valued because they can be used even in the ambient light setting. But if you are looking for a projector for your home theatre, brightness may not matter much since such projectors are usually installed in dark rooms. So if you were looking for a home theater projector buying guide, this small tip might help you a little bit.
Next thing to consider is the throw ratio. According to the throw ratio, projectors are classified as short throw projector and long throw projector. If a projector can cast big images even while staying close to the screen then it’s called a short throw projector. Similarly, if a projector needs a long distance to project the image into the screen, it’s a long throw projector. So understanding the size and contours of the rooms, you need to decide between short throw vs long throw projector.
Projecting technology is another major thing to focus while buying a projector. And according to technology, projectors can broadly divided into DLP projector, LCD projector, led projector, laser projector, etc. DLP projectors have rotating mirrors, which responds to the colors on each pixel with their movements. However, LCD projectors lack such rotating parts. But in the DLP vs LCD projector comparison, colors are often to be better from the DLP ones. So to improve the color accuracy from the LCD projectors, new kind of projectors are developed which goes by the name of 3-chip LCD projector. In the DLP vs LCD vs 3-chip LCD projectors comparison, you’ll find better colors from the 3-chip models. Projector contrast ratio is also found be better from the 3-chip modules.
In the projector review, many reviewers fail to explain about the projector keystones and projector keystone correction. Keystone is basically an option to align the projecting image perfectly in a non-distorted smooth horizontal plane. Using the keystone buttons, the screen can be adjusted perfected and the process is called projector keystone correction. To demonstrate all these ideas, we used three BenQ projectors: BenQ MX731, BenQ TK800M, and BenQ W1090. Since we didn’t have an interactive projector, we were unable to showcase its abilities.
