Despite this decline, vending machines are evolving by making use of their key advantage: operating without staff. New uses include ekiben vending machines at train stations, which help reduce labor costs, as well as machines that apply smartphone screen protectors or sell discounted leftover bread. These innovations show how vending machines can make efficient use of limited space and even help cut food waste. They are transforming from simple drink dispensers into flexible, 24-hour solutions that meet changing consumer needs.
