‘Carrot and stick’: Trump taking strategic approach on Iran

Sky News contributor Kosha Gada says US President Donald Trump is pursuing a calculated “carrot and stick” strategy in dealing with Iran, describing recent developments as “a step in the right direction” despite mounting pressure.

“There is a lot of pressure on him,” she told Sky News host Sharri Markson.

She said the looming midterm elections are increasing the political stakes in the US.

Ms Gada added that the approach is shifting his attention away from the US, saying it is “diverting his energy and focus away from domestic issues”.

“His domestic constituents ... don’t want him to get sucked into a prolonged, protracted quagmire,” she said.

Ms Gada warned “the clock is ticking,” however, he has “people in his corner”.
