Grass Fed Beef: How to Get the Best Finish
The biggest marketing problem with grass fed beef is how inconsistent the final product is. The best finish comes from feeding fresh, vegetative forage as long as you can and especially right before they go to be butchered. Finishing with hay may still produce 100% grass fed but the marbling is not going to be what it should be. Then there is the import market that has no regulation with the repeal of COOL (Country Of Origin Labeling). Imported beef can even be repackaged and tagged with Made in USA. There is no way of knowing where it came from of if it is really even grass fed. Knowing the producer is the best way of getting the best beef. Our beef is so good that I would never sell an animal into a generic grass fed pipeline. I do retail from the farm and the beef just goes flying out of here when people know it is ready. It makes my life easier and gets me more free time in the winter. I just love doing what I am doing.
