The Cold War: Fall of Khrushchev, Rise of Brezhnev and the Brezhnev Doctrine - Episode 41
After Khrushchev was ousted from power, Brezhnev immediately took control and was able to consolidate his power. Whilst Brezhnev's reign was associated with economic stagnation and oppression, it did also represent a welcome shift to stability after the terrifying purges of Stalin and the zig-zags of Khrushchev.
