It is estimated that between 1939 and 1945, about 110,000 people passed through Stutthof. More than half died from malnutrition or dise4ses such as typhus. Guards, upon seeing an inmate too weak to move, showed no mercy and sent them to die in the small gas chamber. Sometimes, they were killed with phenol injections. However, there were occasions when the SS had no patience for these methods of ex3cution and resorted to more brutal forms.
