Drone images reveal scale of Essex caravan site housing over 1,000 residents | SWNS

Drone images have revealed the vast scale of Buckles Lane caravan park in South Ockendon, believed to be one of the largest Traveller sites in Europe.

The sprawling site, established in 1980 as winter accommodation for showmen, is now thought to be home to more than 1,000 people.

Over the years, the community has expanded to include a wide mix of residents, with reports suggesting some travel into London for work.

The site has also been linked to criminal activity. Earlier this year, resident Thomas McKenna was convicted of multiple firearms and explosives offences after operating a hidden weapons workshop.

He was sentenced to 16 years in custody, with an additional five years on extended licence.
