A water heritage structure - Bangalore

There are quite a few large , beautiful open wells in Bangalore. Built of dry stone masonry they are usually located next to surface water bodies called 'Tanks' in the local parlance. One such magnificent structure is near Jakkur Tank , to the north of the city of Bangalore. Located on a farm this beautiful structure has an inner smaller diameter well too which may be about 20 feet deep. The well provides about 100,000 litres of water every day. Thanks to the Jakkur Tank being filled with treated waste water from a Sewage Treatment Plant the well appears to hold water throughout the year.
The question is can these beautiful water heritage structures be preserved since they are also functional and if so how ?
