In this video, Lloyd shows you how to do a one-foot change of edge backwards.
In order to do this move, you should have a good ability to balance on one foot on the ice. A good ability to hold an outside and inside edge on a curve is also required.
Going backwards, weight should be on the ball of the foot but not so far forwards that you hit the toe and lose speed. The centre of your back should be facing the centre of the circle you are moving around.
The Skating knee should be slightly bent on the first edge, rise up a bit during change, then bend slightly on the second edge.
Your head should be in line with your spine, not sticking forwards or looking down. Doing either will set your weight too far forward.
This is an important skill to learn as it is the building blocks for the one-foot backward slalom.
