The BRUTAL Execution Of William Wallace - 'Braveheart'

William Wallace today is considered a hero of Scotland. He is most known for being the main character in the Hollywood film Braveheart, but what cannot be disputed is the fact he was an excellent military leader. Throughout Medieval times, the Scots and the English had a rather different relationship with both sides invading a number of times. William Wallace would rise up through the Wars of Scottish Independence to become a integral figure leading the Scottish Army.

Not much is known about his early life, but he gained a reputation for being an excellent soldier and commander, and he began to defy Edward I who was imposing his will on the Scots. Edward had been asked as King of England to help select a Scottish King and his choice John Balliol was not a popular one with Edward manipulating him. From this William Wallace and other Scottish nobles began acts of resistance attacking the English.

Wallace would win a spectacular victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge which cemented his legacy as a skilled general, and developed his reputation as a dangerous military tactician. Heavily out-numbered he routed the English, but later on would lose heavily at the Battle of Falkirk. The once 'Guardian of Scotland' was then tracked down and was handed over to Edward I and the English after being betrayed. He was taken to London and was found guilty of treason. He was then sentenced to death, being executed in horrific manner being hanged, drawn and quartered.
