Beginner Crochet Refugee Hat part 1

This is part 1 of a tutorial for Mrs. Martin's 6th grade class. We are learning to crochet a very basic wool hat to send to the Syrian refugees in Greece and Jordan, via the Salaam Cultural Museum in Seattle. Please join us! This free pattern may be used for anyone, but we would love it if you would also donate a hat to the refugees! (The video ends in a weird spot, so click on video 2 in this series to see how to finish crocheting this basic body of the hat.)

Free pattern:
Ch 27.
Row1: Dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and in each chain across. (25 stitches)
Row 2: Turn work and ch 2. Dc in the BACK LOOP ONLY of each stitch across. (25 stitches)
Rows 3-25: Repeat row 2.
Clip yarn, leaving a long tail to stitch the hat closed. Tie off. Stitch into a hat!
