Remember everyone, in Dungeons and Dragons Milestone Leveling means you have to hit the Milestone. Otherwise, you can do XP Leveling, but you'll actually have to do extra math. For those confused, in DnD you can chose How to Play DnD, so you can level up one of two ways, either Milestone or XP. Milestone essentially eats you level up when either the campaign book you are playing or when the Dungeon Master themself thinks you should level up. XP means you collect experience points based on what Monsters you've defeated,which is more like a classic RPG game. Each system has issues, Milestone can run into a problem when the players do a lot of non main quest work, but the Dungeon Master wrote all level ups tied to the main quest. If the DM level ups the players early, they essentially have to rewrite a bunch of encounters and potentially redesign their BBEG. XP is a problem because it incentivizes combat over any other way to solve a problem since the only assigned XP values in the book are for defeating monsters. Both of these can be solved by the DM adapting to the players by either, never writing ahead and improvising half the campaign, which requires skill and practice, or by writing XP values for every outcome, which requires either prewriting of immense skill and practice. So be nice to your DM, and just let them level you up when they think it's the right time.
