2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara Front Right Diff Seal Replacement

Time Stamps:
• 0:00 to 7:40 = introductory comments; loosen axle nut while the vehicle is still on the ground (32 mm socket), remove caliper guide pin bolts (14 mm), caliper bracket bolts (17 mm), brake rotor, abs sensor wire bolts (10 mm), out tie rod nut (17 mm), strut bolts and nuts (19 mm), stabilizer link nuts (14 mm??), wheel lug nuts 19 mm); explained trick to removing seized end link bolt/nut from stabilizer;
• 7:41 to 8:02 = don’t forget to support the lower control arm with a jack;
• 8:03 to 8:39 = right front drive axle separated from hub assembly; you can leave the lower ball joint in place; support drive axle with a bungee cord or similar;
• 8:40 to 9:03 = wrap the outer cv boot with a rag to protect it and support the drive axle so it’s not hanging by the inner CV joint;
• 9:04 to 11:44 = drive axle removed; no need to remove the flange that I thought needed removing; support the hub assembly with a bungee cord or similar so its not stretching the lower ball joint & boot; protect the tie rod end boot as well; before installing, coat the c-clip on the inner CV axle shaft to keep it centered while installing it back into the differential; check the seal sealing surface for any burrs and/or abnormal wear;
• 11:45 to 13:55 = be careful when removing the seal, recommend you grab the seal just at the inner end to avoid going in too deep and gouging the housing surface; clean the surface area with fine sand paper (600 grit or so); tap the new seal in carefully;
• 13:56 to 15:23 = new seal is installed; be mindful when installing so you do not install it in too deep; apply grease to the inner lip of the new seal; doesn’t hurt to apply a bit of grease on the outer-splines of the CV axle;
• 15:24 to 20:06 = drive axle installed; make sure inner CV axle is fully seated into the differential; apply some lithium great to the stabilizer bar end link nuts to prevent rust in the future; strut bolts goe on the front side and the nuts on the backside of the strut; don’t forget to stake the center axle nut when finished torquing it;

Description:

This is a talk-only video on tricks and tips on replacing the front right side differential oil seal on a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara JLX-L, 2.7 V6 petrol engine.

I did not show the actual repairs itself, being by myself with only my camera phone really gave me no other option, however, I hope I was able to help some Suzuki Grand Vitara owners.

If there are any questions, please leave them in the comments below and I will answer back. Thank you for watching.
