George Hrab - Secret Skeptics: Critical Thinkers Hidden in Popular Culture
There is a long history of critically thinking, skeptically-minded characters in popular literature, film, and television. Even though most of them wouldn’t necessarily self-identify as skeptics, they all share many of the most common characteristics of a critical thinker. Problem solving, using evidence, questioning status-quo and an appreciation of the scientific method unite these “hidden skeptics.” George Hrab’s talk connects the dots from the Bible to Shakespeare to Bugs Bunny and beyond-- demonstrating that skeptical characters are both prevalent and important in popular culture.
