How To Play Bembe Güiro Demo with Guataca Bell and Shekere Parts

Guiro how to for 3 chekeres and 12/8 hoe bell. Explained by Master Galarraga with his students. You can find and order this material and much more on the "Bembe & Guiro" DVD on Amazon or with this link: http://amzn.com/B074R847NP
The Guiro rhythm is based on a 12/8 time which is a compound duple meter that can be counted as 1 & a 2 & a 3 & a 4 & a. The small shekere (uno) plays the downbeats meaning the *1 *2 *3 *4. The mid range or segundo shekere has many options and can also play the clave in triplet feel or many other clave-based variations one of which is notated below. The large shekere or Caja improvises as the lead. The shekere is a very intricate instrument and this notation below is very skeletal so the 'x' on chekere lines indicates the strike on the bottom of the gourd by the dominant hand. The guataca is playing the standard 6/8 (or 12/8) afrocuban bell pattern and does not improvise. Guiro notation can be written as:
1 & a 2 & a 3 & a 4 & a Count
x x x x x x x Bell
x x x x Uno
x x x x x x x Segundo
// Caja (ad lib)
