SIA Malta: Xemxija Underground Mill

Xemxija underground mill is one of eight such mills built in the 1950s as part of improving Malta's ability to survive a war. During WWII, Malta was 10 days away from surrender due to dwindling supplies of food, fuel and ammunition. Seven of these mills are found in Malta and one in Gozo. The one in Xemxija was restored recently by a group of volunteers.
