The second wife of Snow White’s father turns out to be not only an evil, selfish, ambitious woman (who loves to squander money, with a taste for fine clothes and jewelry), but also one who dabbles in sorcery while her husband risks his life in the war… When Chrystel realizes that Snow White’s nanny, Molly, wants to protect the girl from the cruel intentions of her stepmother, she makes her life impossible, finally dismissing her from the castle altogether so that the young princess remains entirely at her mercy. Chrystel’s only confidant is a peculiar bat; also, she has a magic mirror to which she continually asks the question: “mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all...”
