This video shows a role play of a junior doctor performing the initial stages of the COAT & Review approach to evaluate a post-operative patient with abdominal pain. Note that prior to attempting to diagnose the cause of the abdominal pain he first acts to CONFIRM the status of Airway, Breathing & Circulation - taking care to OPTIMISE any compromised physiology as it is detected. Only once this process is complete and he has ensured the patient's safety, does he move to ASSESS for the possible causes of the abdominal pain.
