Producing a song is a lot of fun. And we all love to move faders up and start using EQs and compressors to make our track sound as good as it can.
But efficiency is a very important quality of every good mixing engineer.
 
So today I want to talk to you about ORGANIZATION.
 
Before you start mixing try to do all of the administrative tasks so then you can concentrate on what is most important: the song!
 
Not having to try to find the hihat, or the bass synth, or the second harmonie, or whatever in the middle of a 30, 40, 70...channel mix will make your life a lot easier.
 
So group all the instruments in a way that make sense to you, name them so you can find them easily, put colors to the groups and mark the different sections of the song.
 
Make this a habit and you will notice a huge improvement on how fast your workflow will be.
