Hi Suzi and Travis, On to some undiscovered territory: the world of TV. I am not sure if you are at all familiar with Doctor Who. If not it is about time. :-) Important note: Doctor Who is the name of the TV show. The name of the character is The Doctor. Mix those 2 up and the fandom will descend upon you with sharp cutlery in both hands. This is probably the longest running Sci-Fi TV show ever. It started in 1963 with a 16 year hiatus from 1989 to 2005 and is still running with a total of 906 episodes so far. The Doctor is a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey and is traveling through time and space with his TARDIS embarking on numerous adventures against formidable enemies usually with one or more human companions. The Doctor is quite old (way over 1,000 years) and achieves longevity by way of regeneration (nicely explaining the change of actors). One of the show’s writers was quoted saying this about the character of The Doctor: “Heroes are important. Heroes tell us who we want to be but when they made this particular hero they didn’t give him a gun, they gave him a screwdriver to fix things. They didn’t give him a tank or a warship or an X-Wing, they gave him a call box from which you can call for help and they didn’t give him a superpower or a heat-ray, they gave him an extra heart. And that’s extraordinary. There will never come a time when we don’t need a hero like the doctor.” The writing for Doctor Who is usually extraordinary and you may experience a whole range of emotions when watching just one episode going from “This is cool” to sobbing uncontrollably to rolling on the floor laughing. Sometimes all three at once. The writers of Doctor Who are just as good as George R. R. Martin (the guy writing the Game Of Thrones books) in one particular skill: Create characters and make the audience like them, then kill them off in a minor, anti-climactic way. You will now be visited by 3 incarnations of The Doctor (10, 11, and 12). This here is The 10th Doctor played by David Tennant also known for his role of Barty Crouch Jr. in the Harry Potter films, and the TV series Jessica Jones and Broadchurch. In this episode - The Family of Blood - The Doctor has been hiding from said family who want to become immortal by using the regeneration energy of a Time Lord. And now for the conclusion… Enjoy.
