F-roads of Iceland: F821 (Eyjafjarðarleið) (05.09.2020)

F821 - another spectacular Icelandic F-road located in north of Iceland. It starts from Hólsgerði farm and heads south until it reaches Laugafell mountain hut. It’s a pretty rough going, having big potholes and rocks on the road. It doesn’t have any huge unbridged rivers, just a couple of streams. F821 runs through a valley and then climbs from sea level up to 926 meters (3037 ft). The twisty and narrow section climbing up was very exciting and memorable. The trail ends with Laugafell mountain hut, that has a natural geothermal hot spring. We took this road on the 5th of September 2020 and a day before that there had been an unexpected spontaneous snow storm in that area, specially more in the center part of Iceland. Luckily, the following day was clear and warm and the sun had been melting a lot of snow by the time we got there. That’s the reason why the trail was quite wet in the beginning and after the elevation there was quite a bit of snow still on the road. A good example of how Icelandic weather can be unpredictable and change the conditions very quickly.

I would highly recommend the F821, as it offers so beautiful views and the scenery changes drastically from a (green) valley into a rocky desert in the Icelandic Highlands. And then at the end of course is the natural hot spring in Laugafell hut. :)

EDIT: While putting together the next video about F752, I noticed a mistake I had done with the F821 video - it does not end with Laugafell hut, it keeps on going for a short while and then ends with merging into F752.
