ANIMATED - The Future Of Disney Animatronics

You've just been to Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California or maybe you've only seen the coverage everywhere on YouTube. Either way, you're wondering what could Disney Imagineers possibly create next?

First, let's look back to the origins of Walt Disney's Original Magic Kingdom and the vision that he had for making not a theme park but a stage. Disneyland, after all, was created by artists, animators, and storytellers, not architects and engineers. Did you know that when Disneyland opened Walt Disney pictures had already made over 25 full-length feature films like Snow White, Cinderella, Pinocchio, Dumbo and Lady And The Tramp?

Disneyland was created with three main design principles: Storytelling, Immersion, and Technology. Walt Disney and his WED Imagineers created a small city, a world that you could never see out of where the stories would come to life. However, it would take almost eight years before technology would catch up with imagination, and Walt Disney could invent Audio Animatronics that could do more than simple gestures.

Learn about the origins of Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room and how creating the first Audio Animatronics got Walt Disney hired to create four major exhibitions for the 1964 World's Fair in New York City. Where Walt and his team would create Marry Blair's, It's A Small World, The Carousel Theater of Progress, Ford's Magic Skyway and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. These creative challenges would not only give Walt Disney the experience that he needed but the necessary funding to perfect Audio Animatronics at Disneyland. Soon after creating The Pirates Of The Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion.

As time passes so does technology and with the advancement of audio animatronics to A100 and A1000 characters let's explore Disney parks around the world and see the various new characters that have been created and how they have been able to bring different technologies into the animatronics such as projects and digital image mapping.

Now that we have explored the past and the present, let's look into the future with exciting cutting edge animatronics from Garner Holt Productions. Artificial Intelligence robotics from Disney Imagineering and the future of stand-alone robotics from companies like Boston Dynamics. Exploring all of this new technology, let's imagine the possibilities of what Disney could do to improve their attractions and shows. We'll even look at a cutting edge robot stunt man who can fly and flip through the air like Spider-Man.

All of this and so much more in this Disneyland Story "Animated: The Future Of Audio Animatronics" by Adventures In Design Network narrated and written by Mark Brickey.
