PSD School Closures: Phased, Goldilocks, or Aggressive?

Poudre School District is getting closer to some very big decisions. 🏫

By October 20, 2026, PSD is expected to bring forward three possible approaches for elementary and middle school closures, with a vote potentially happening as early as November and implementation beginning in the 2027–2028 school year.

The options range from a phased approach with a smaller number of closures, to a Goldilocks middle-ground option, all the way to a more aggressive plan that could close more schools now and avoid doing this again for the next 10 to 20 years.

After digging into it more, I’m not necessarily opposed to closures if it means stronger schools overall. With enrollment down and birth rates down, this could be the kind of reset that allows PSD to create better resources, programs, and opportunities across the district instead of spreading them too thin.
