The Beach at the End of Canada’s Road 🇨🇦 San Josef Bay

At the very northern tip of Vancouver Island, where the road finally runs out, lies one of British Columbia’s most magical hidden beaches 🌊🇨🇦

San Josef Bay sits inside Cape Scott Provincial Park — a wild stretch of Pacific coastline famous for its towering sea stacks, white-sand beaches, sea caves, and tide pools. Carved by the relentless ocean through “differential erosion,” these ancient rock pillars are best explored at low tide, when their hidden arches and caves open up.

The best part? Getting there is an adventure in itself 👇

🥾 The hike: ~2.5 km each way (about 45–60 min) on a flat, well-maintained forest trail — one of the easiest in the park, family-friendly enough that people pull wagons of camping gear in
🌲 Walk through old-growth rainforest with giant moss-covered Sitka spruce and cedar
🏕️ First-come, first-served beach camping right above the high-tide line
🌊 Visit at low tide to access the sea stacks, caves and tide pools

⚠️ Know before you go:
🚙 From Port Hardy it’s ~1.5–2 hrs, and the last 60+ km are active gravel logging roads — yield to logging trucks, especially on weekdays
📵 No cell service on the road or in the park — download maps and tell someone your plans
🐻 Bear country — carry bear spray
👟 Wear waterproof boots and check the tide tables before you go

This is wild, off-the-grid Canada at its finest.
