Wasseim Alsati: A father’s despair, love and hope

Speaking for the first time since the Christchurch mosque attacks, Wasseim Alsati recounts the moment he and his daughter Alen were shot multiple times, and speaks about his hopes for his youngest daughter, who suffered brain damage as a result of her injuries.

Wasseim Alsati spoke exclusively with Lisa Owen, telling her he believes his daughter would be dead if he hadn't lifted her up just as the gunman fired.

The Christchurch barber says he would always take Alen for a fluffy and two marshmallows on Friday mornings, and then take her home before prayers, but on February 15 they went to the mosque together.

He was released from hospital two days ago but is living at Ronald McDonald house whilst Alen remains in Auckland's Starship Hospital.

And a warning, given what happened on February 15, much of what Wasseim describes is disturbing.
