Ardupilot - VTOL weathervaning feature
Weathervaning related features:
- Makes weathervaning functionality common to both plane and copter (useful for aerodynamically shaped bodies)
- Adds more options to control when weathervaning is activated or not, namely a velocity threshold
- Adds a pitch component to the 'nose into wind' yaw rate calculation to keep a high yaw rate when the aircrafts tail is into wind
- Adds the 'side into wind' option for tailsitters, extremely useful since having the wind to the side helps in maintaining the priority control of the stability on the roll (given by the motors)
It will be available in the next version of Ardupilot Plane, stay tuned!
"Explora Tailsitter VTOL" it is completely printed with a 3D printer FDM, and is being tested with Ardupilot and PX4.
