Second Sight has finally released a set that's been in the making for the last 3 years: The 4K restored UHD release of Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975). Arguably the greatest Australian film ever made and definitely one of the most beautiful. But sometimes beauty is shrouded in darkness because an air of unease hovers over the entire story, proving the mysteries of the unknown are the most horrifying of all.

This limited edition set includes newly commissioned artwork by Thinh Dinh that perfectly captures the warm, gorgeous glow of the movie, a book with new essays by Daniel Bird, Kat Ellinger and Justine Smith, Rebecca Harkins-Cross, Costume Gallery and features on the original marketing of the film and the new restoration, the original novel by Joan Lindsay, as well as the sought after theatrical cut.

But... this set is also surrounded by controversy. There have been rumors that DNR has been applied to certain shots, as well as a layer of digital grain to replace the film grain that has been scrubbed away. Also, a new color grade has been created that pushes all of the colors towards yellow and gives several scenes a near-sepia tone. Having said that, this restoration has been supervised and approved by director Peter Weir and director of photography Russell Boyd.
