This video presents wartime documents detailing the operations orders and tactics of the 2nd Panzer Division in the Battle of Normandy 1944 by its division commander General von Lüttwitz. This veteran unit, one of the original panzer divisions established in 1935, was sent to fight in the battle of Normandy 1944 against the US Army & British Army with their Sherman tanks and Cromwell tanks.

The bocage, allied artillery and air superiority presented unusual challenges for the German Panzer IV and Panther Tank and forced them to adopt small unit tank tactics instead of traditional attacks with concentrated and powerful combined arms forces.

2nd Panzer division was considered an elite unit in Normandy by the German command. It was initially supposed to be one of the spearhead units to defeat Operation Overlord. Later it was used as the spearhead of the Mortain Counterattack and it would be the spearhead of the Ardennes offensive or Battle of the Bulge.
