THE CULTURED SELF: A TRADITIONED APPROACH TO MENTAL HEALTH
You’re invited to Regent's 2023 Evening Public Lecture series! Join us in the chapel or tune in online to explore theology, culture, and much more with this year’s summer faculty.
ABOUT THE LECTURE
In this Evening Public Lecture, registered psychologist and Regent graduate Dr. Edward Ng will critique the construct of mental health and speak to the importance of culture in understanding the origins of psychological difficulties. He will also offer hopeful ways for individuals and communities to become involved in intervention for the purpose of shalom-making in obedience to Christ.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Edward Ng was born in Ontario and has lived across Canada. After studying at UBC (BSc, BEd), he moved to Hong Kong, where he taught science and served as a chaplain at an international school. He came back to Vancouver to complete an MDiv at Regent College, after which he helped to plant and pastor a church in the Dunbar neighbourhood. He then entered into the field of clinical psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary’s Graduate School of Psychology (Pasadena, CA), an institution renowned for its integration of psychology and theology. He completed his Doctor of Psychology degree in 2016, and is now the Founder and Director of Eastgate Psychological Services in Vancouver. His academic interests include the application of cultural narrative and cultural psychology in counselling settings and relational psychoanalysis.
Dr. Ng is teaching Culture, Faith, and Mental Health from June 5 to 9 as part of Regent’s 2023 Summer Programs.
